My name is Branislava. I grew up in a restaurant family. Mondays were the one day the restaurant was closed. It was also the one night of the week that we could all gather around the table for family dinner. These meals provided more than nourishment for my body. I learned many life lessons and they fed my soul. All of this happened at Table Two.
Growing up this way, many of my memories of food, life, family and friends are intertwined. It becomes hard to think of a meal or a lesson without thinking about the wonderful people who sat around the table sharing it with me. Strangers were always welcome at our table and many became friends.
I spent many years working in the restaurant, as did all of my siblings. It is a great source of pride for me, especially, when our little, family restaurant was honored with a James Beard Foundation Award in the “America’s Classics” category. Three generations and 62 years later, the restaurant is still going strong. All thanks to the dedication of my grandparents, parents and now, my siblings.
